For the love of convenience
Interesting fact about the post below: I started writing it on May 5th, 2026, but somehow something kept getting in the way every day, and I finally finished it on July 6th, 2026. (over 2 months later) Then I went to my account to post it, but something went wrong, and I couldn’t access my previous posts or publish this new one. I had to contact the company that hosts the website, and thank God, it was fixed 2 days later. Coincidence or Opposition? You judge, but I know.
What is convenience?
According to Dictionary.com, the word convenience is defined as follows:
–the quality of being convenient; suitability.
–anything that saves or simplifies work, adds to one’s ease or comfort, etc., as an appliance, utensil, or the like, advantage or accommodation.
For Oxford Languages, it is:
–the state of being able to proceed with something with little effort or difficulty.
Currently, our world offers the greatest range of conveniences than at any other time in human history. From 1980 to 2026, we have come a long way. Forget about the past wonder of cordless home phones, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, etc. Technology has been increasing at an unprecedented speed, and for many, it is hard to keep up with. Before you get used to a new thing, a newer one is available. And of course, it is all for our convenience. But is it free, or is there a cost to pay?
Brain vs Technology
Before going further into the subject, let me share the reason why I am writing about this. It may seem irrelevant to talk about this matter on a blog with spiritual content, but hang on, and you will see.
Recently, out of nowhere, a thought came to mind: I wondered if I were stranded somewhere without my phone, would I be able to borrow someone else’s and contact any of my loved ones from memory? To find out, I tested myself, and the result shocked me because I didn’t remember accurately all the numbers of those closest to me. I felt ashamed, but I also realized how much I relied on an Artificial and Alternative Intelligence to do what I’m supposed to do for myself. I imagined how helpless I would be in an emergency, not being able to contact all my family members. Therefore, I decided to learn their numbers once and for all, and so I did successfully.
But this raised a whole set of considerations about the usefulness of technology and how dangerous it can be as well. There are too many conveniences that most people use every day, so I won’t be able to cover them all. I will list some examples below:
–Apps and privacy
Every time we download a new app, we are asked to give access to certain information from our phones. Most of the time, they require access to the camera, microphone, location, etc. For some things like software updates, there may be some agreement to read first, but who takes the time to read the details? No one. We blindly accept so we can get to our end goal. But we don’t realize that we’re just trading our privacy for convenience.
We share our faces or fingerprints for a quick sign-in. Again, nobody has the time and the brain to type a password from memory. So, we rely on the password app to save our “important and secret” passwords, thinking that only we can see them. Right! As a result, our brain works less and less, losing its power and capacity.
-Food
Everyone can agree that restaurants are convenient for so many people. Many use them because they work long hours and don’t have time to cook. However, some can’t cook, and some others just won’t. Unfortunately, they don’t consider the detrimental effects on their health, especially when it comes to the fast-food industry. Eating out often makes a hole in their pockets, even more so if a whole family has to be fed. Some eateries indeed offer healthier food choices, which makes them more expensive, but why not for the sake of convenience?
The other part of the food industry is the delivery options. Your favorite meals can be brought to your doorstep in a few minutes. All you have to do is tap this, tap that to make your choices, and once you submit it, you sit back and wait for it. Same thing with ordering groceries: the only finger you lift is to select and pay for the items you need.
Most people crave convenience so much that they do not mind the extra fees or safety concerns. Some grocery chains, knowing this, offer the option to have your groceries put away for you, whether you are home or not. How much more convenient could it be?
Elevator and close parking spot
This is another convenient tool, especially when people are in a hurry and have to go up or down many flights of stairs, or for someone with an impaired leg or knee, a handicap, or a feeble elderly person. It’s quick and helpful, but we, people, would do our bodies a favor by taking the stairs more often.
Same thing for parking spots, as most people look for the closest one wherever they go. Though the extra steps would be beneficial, some hate it. Almost everyone, at times, stays in their car waiting for someone to leave to get the good spot. In extreme cases, two drivers will even argue over the coveted place. Though everyone can appreciate a close spot, especially in the rainy season or very cold temperatures, we are doing ourselves a disservice in the end. And pointing out these things doesn’t mean that I don’t use some of them. I just want to show you the reality.
There are so many other conveniences that I can’t think of them all, but here are a few:
We have Siri, ChatGPT, Gemini, maps with GPS, and so many AI apps that keep on multiplying. Some teach how to speak languages, how to sing or compose songs, etc. They can alter pictures, videos, voices and produce fake realities that lead to deception. The worst is that some of them are used as confidants, friends, or therapists. That’s the sad state of humanity. People have become lonelier despite having hundreds of online friends. And many renounce their natural talents to let AI do it better and faster. They don’t care that in the future, so many will lose their jobs because of that helper that surpasses their human abilities.
We also have devices at home controlled by Smart Speakers like Alexa, Google Home, etc. We put them in charge of our thermostat, light switches, pool, entertainment station, fridge, door locks, etc. Once again, no one can deny they help, but what if one day you were told you shouldn’t use AC after a certain time of day and you disobeyed? Wouldn’t you be surprised to see it shut down on time despite all your maneuvers to keep it on? Who knows, maybe, just maybe, others can access your devices from afar. And maybe that is the point of the conveniences after all. You control these devices now with your voice or a tap, but in the future, they may be used to control you. Here to help you today and control you tomorrow. Food for thought.
From robotic vacuums, lawn mowers, and maids to self-driving cars, and in between, wearable fitness trackers, telehealth, digital banking, social media, online meetings, personal security cameras, location trackers, etc., though convenient, are not really here to free us but to enslave us and get us addicted to them. One day, when these things become conditional or rewards for our obedience, many will struggle because they will forget how to live independently and rely on their brains and their God-given skills. AI is in charge and showing a friendly face now, but it is here for tyranny and deception. Now, everyone is amazed by what it can do, and it has even become everything they wished for.
The father of lies
Deception and lies are one of the main characteristics of the Devil, and that’s one reason why God hates lies so much. The evil one used it at the beginning to deceive Adam and Eve, and now, in the end times, he uses the same trick, just differently. He knows humans’ desire to be their own god, and he’s here to “help” them reach that goal. Now, electronic chips are being developed for implantation in the brain to treat neurological disorders, manage prosthetics, and enhance human intelligence. It’s starting up as useful, of course, and this will cause so many to fall for it. These days, it is getting harder and harder to tell if a video or picture is real or AI-generated. It is here to confuse people, not to give truth and clarity.
Then what will happen when the common conveniences are taken away unless you get the mark of the Beast? Will anyone resign themselves to suffering from lack and going without the things they were used to for so long, or will they simply give in? What about the Christians, will they stick with God even when food becomes a luxury or a reward for denying Him? Will they count on their God to heal them when an urgent health treatment is denied, just because they serve Him? These will be hard decisions to make, especially when little children are affected by them. We are heading into harder times, and everyone should question their abilities to use their God-given skills for wise, independent living. Moreover, Christians should examine their relationship with their Savior and see if they are ready to suffer for His name’s sake.
Jesus warned his followers that in the end times we live in, there will be hardships, especially for those who belong to Him. Therefore, many of them will renounce His name in the face of suffering.
“Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 24:9-13
In another passage, Jesus also asked a question that deserves to be pondered upon:
“But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” Luke 18:8b
Yahweh, the One True God
Technology and scientific advancements are great and helpful, but they should be used with caution. Otherwise, humans will become sleepwalkers, hypnotized by their small screens and unaware that they are happily and comfortably walking toward their destruction. They are certainly turning into zombies, allergic to personal effort and addicted to ease. They have put their brains to rest and made technology their God. But they have to remember that the One who is truly God, will destroy all the idols elevated by man.
“You must not have any other god but me.
“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.
You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.
But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. Exodus 20:3-6
Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other. Isaiah 45:22

Remember, God is Love, but He is also Holy and Just. Therefore, He will judge all unrepentant sinners. Turn away from sin and come to Him.
