The Coming Persecution… (Part 1)

On November 8, 2016, the night of the presidential elections in the USA, I had one of the most disturbing dreams.  Most Christians, including myself, sighed in relief at the outcome, which led to Mr. Trump’s first presidency.  Some evangelical leaders were bursting with joy that Mrs. Clinton, the “liberal” candidate, didn’t make it.  I went to bed with gratitude and hope for America.

That fact made it even more unlikely for me to have this dream.  Yet I saw myself in the passenger seat of a car, with my husband driving as fast as he could.  In that first scene, as we found ourselves on a two-lane road, I heard a voice saying: “Trump has turned against Christians, now he’s chasing them down.”

After a little while, we turned to the left onto a dirt road.  Still, we were zipping through it, feeling desperate and running for our lives.   As we moved deeper into the area, we began to see some old houses, some of which were in ruins.  They were made of wood that has now deteriorated and had a shade of dark gray, almost black.

We stopped somewhere in that tiny community and ran up to one of its timeworn houses.  Since they all looked abandoned, we got inside, but after a little bit, we heard the voices of two people talking.  We were stunned that people were still living there, and we hid under a table that was barely standing in a corner.  Luckily, there was not much light in the room.  We stayed there very quietly, afraid and careful not to make any noise.  Otherwise, we could be discovered and taken to the authorities.  And that’s when I woke with chills and the fear of being found, still on me.

At first, I felt relieved that it was just a dream.  It seemed to be a “crazy” one, since it did not make any sense to me.  Why would someone who has been propelled to power with a big support from the Christians turn against them?   I was troubled, but I realized that though it seemed weird, it was one of those dreams that leaves a mark on you, you can’t shake off.  So, I asked the Lord to show me the meaning of all this.  The dream is practically self-explanatory, but I needed to hear if there was something else I could make of it; but nothing more came to me.

Then I shared it with my husband, and he, too, thought it was weird.  Two days later, at Women’s Bible study, I recounted it to my group leader, with whom I had recently shared a dream about Mrs. Clinton’s impending loss, which was welcomed.  But when she heard this dream about the new president, she looked at me like I was out of my mind and barely commented.   Who knows, maybe she thought I was making up stuff this time around.

So, I kept it to myself for the past nine years. As with all my dreams, I thought the Lord was only giving me head-starts for myself and my family.  I had no clue that one day, I would have to share them with anyone else but close family.  From time to time, this dream comes back to my mind, and I ponder on it for a moment and dismiss it, still not understanding it fully.  However, since the beginning of 2025, it has frequently resurfaced in my thoughts, and finally, the Lord prompted me to share it on the blog.

Frankly, I was not jumping at the idea.  More than the other dreams I posted before, this could lead many to question my credibility.  But after much prayer, asking the Lord for wisdom and understanding, I had to bow and do what He asked of me.  The Lord, knowing my reluctance, warned me not to soften or rephrase the dream my way.  He also pointed out to me that if I leave anything out, it would be a lie; therefore, it would not be His message.

Though I still don’t understand the reasons why the current president would go against Christians, it is my duty to report the dream accurately.  In the beginning, when the voice was telling me what was happening, I had the impression that the president was tired of granting requests and demands from the Christian community, so he got angry and went in the opposite direction.   Whether the persecution of Christians will come from him or one of his descendants,  one thing is sure: the Church of Christ will be tried.  She will be tested until she is spotless and ready for the Groom, Jesus Christ Himself.

Now the Bride of Christ is still wearing a grimy, muddy dress; therefore, she has to be washed along with her garments.  When she’s truly ready, then Jesus will take her home.  This past September, many believed once again that they were going to be raptured.  They possibly brought ridicule to our faith, but they certainly proved that they don’t know the written Word of God and Jesus, the one they claim as their Savior. In His own words, He said concerning His coming:

“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.  Only the Father knows.”  Matthew 24:36

More importantly, related to this post, Jesus warned:

“Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world.  But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.”

“Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers”. Matthew 24:7-10

He also reminds us of what we are, and how useless we would be, if we lose our identity.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:13-16

Persecution has been going on for a while in many places of the world, but the Western Countries, especially here in America never really faced it.  There have been cases here and there, but nothing widespread.  But to the astonishment of so many, this will change, and the Church will have to prove if she really believes in God as she says she does.

When we see the High Authorities of this land, warmly welcoming leaders from the Middle East and other places that are known for persecuting and even killing Christians, we wonder why nothing about it is mentioned.  But then, we should remember who is really for us, the Lord Almighty Himself, who is our Shepherd and the Guardian of our souls.  And this is more than enough.

Remember, God is Love, but He is also Holy and Just. Therefore, He will judge all unrepentant sinners.  Turn away from sin and come to Him.
